Wedding Shoot at Blenheim Palace, Oxfordshire

During the summer the time came again for our fab team of suppliers to get our heads together about our Autumn shoot. The florist amongst us, Joanna Carter, often works at Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire so she asked the events team if we could use this incredible location and to everyone's delight they were happy for us to.

It was amazing to be able to use the grounds and architecture - probably the perfect kind of location for me (or any photographer!). On the day Anna McDonald brought a choice of dresses with priority being given to the Kate Middleton replica. Not many dresses could compete with the scale and majesty of Blenheim Palace but this one could.

It was the 29th September and baking hot. Bright, bright sunshine and blue skies. Sounds gorgeous - but potentially not for photography. But rather than run from the challenge I used it creatively and aimed to create some images with drama and contrast. But I also love the serenity of the second image created out of that single, intense, shaft of sunlight.

Of course - my part in this gorgeous shoot is only small. Loads of hardwork and creative input came from the usual suspects:

Anna McDonald provided the dresses and veils
Cat Fransham of Make Up for Brides did her usual magic on hair and make up.
Sarah of Euphoria Couture once again finished the look with her incredible accessories
and of course Joanna Carter provided the gorgeous bouquets.

Typically there was a lot of attention from visitors to Blenheim who stumbled across the shoot - particularly when they realised that it was 'the Kate' dress.

I'm seeing all the girls this evening - to look at the pics, drink wine, eat and chat. And make a plan for the next time.

Sayba finally has his moment!

My cat, Sayba, is a very beautiful boy. He is also very, very friendly and interrupts every shoot I do here at home. Strangely enough he seems to be particularly fond of boudoir sessions....

Luckily for him both I and my gorgeous client thought he made a rather good prop...

Baby hats for parents and photographers!

When my daughter was born 6 years ago I found a beautiful handknitted hat and mittens in a small boutique in London. I still love them- as does my daughter who has asked me to keep them for her daughter...

A year ago I was searching high and low for bespoke, knitted hats for shoots and came across Rocket Clothing on Etsy. Turns out it's the same woman who knitted the hat and mittens all those years ago. Linda and I now work together and she produces the most gorgeous creations - and not just hats - also blankets, cocoons, children's clothes etc.

If you want a cute hat for your baby or you are a fellow photographer looking for some beautiful props get in touch with Linda.

SWPP Monthly Competition

Because I will be speaking at the SWPP Convention in Jan I've been reminded that I need to be entering the monthly image competition... I've been so busy lately that it hasn't made it up the to do list but I thought I'd spend a bit of time today choosing some images to put forward.

Entering competitions is a funny thing when you are largely a self taught, lifestyle photographer, like I am. I don't know many of the 'rules and guidelines' that make a photograph 'good' in the eyes of this panel of judges. I know what appeals to me and my fine art background. With this in mind I've entered images that I like and I have no expectations of silver or gold 'success'.

I thought I'd share them with the people who are kind enough to stop by here - I know that some of you will appreciate them in some form.

By the way - for 18 months I've had my blog set so that many people couldn't comment - stupid I know but now sorted I believe! So feel free to say hi. x

Advertising
I completed my first commercial fashion shoot a couple of weeks ago - it was all about the advertisers for a lifestyle magazine. I got the front cover! Gloria the model is unsigned. Something magic happened when she looked into my lens. Watch this space.

Pregnancy Portrait
This is Fran's 3rd pregnancy, she's a photographer and wanted something different and bit arty. We had fun, we laughed and shocked the people of Preston (yes, really).

Monochrome

This is Blenheim Palace on a really hot, sunny day. A year ago I was afraid of bright, contrasty light. Now I love it. The dress is a Kate Middleton replica and the shoot was for Anna McDonald Bridal Gallery.

Fine Art

This category needs no purpose except to look and feel like art. I called this image chi·a·ro·scu·ro. I love how peaceful it is.

Fashion

Another Anna McDonald dress - the only aim of an image like this is to sell the dress and the dream.

Baby

I'm fairly confident this image isn't going to be well received. But I love 'Alfie'.

Wedding Photojournalism

When I look at this image I'm always struck by the fact that I was the only one watching the couple climbing the stairs back to their guests.

Got to get back to some editing now - so will think about entering some kiddy/boudoir images next month.

Seductive Boudoir, Aspire Photography, Sep 22nd

It's been a while since I've posted as the last 2 weeks have been totally crazy - shoots have included fashion for a magazine, a game (partridge etc) shoot, brand photography for Hallmark Cards and of course training days for Aspire.

Here finally are some of my images from my first Seductive Boudoir course. We had a great day beginning at Aspire to talk about the art of boudoir, my influences and style and then we jumped in cars and headed to the gorgeous and very boutique Royal Hotel, our real 'models' for the day were sisters and they were both fabulous to work with - particularly considering there was me and 10 other photographers in the hotel suite!

We managed to cover a lot of different boudoir poses, lighting tricks etc and the delegates should have gone away confident that they can photograph women in a stylish and flattering way.

Next course is running on Nov 2nd and will be held at Aspire and The Royal Hotel.
