December 2009

This was my Christmas card last year.

This little angel is actually my daughter. But that's not why it's one of my favourite pictures. I love the low winter sun, her focussed expression and the framing of the winter branches.

November 2009

Pre-wedding shoots are great. It's a chance to get to know a bride and groom better, find out the latest plans for the wedding and get them used to me and my camera. The first few mins are always tricky but they soon relax, have fun and feel at ease showing their love.

Getting pictures of couples in a more everyday setting is something I enjoy very much. Look in the pre-wedding gallery for more images of this lovely couple. You'll see we just went for a walk in their London patch - Kensington Gardens.

October 2009

Autumn was just beginning to spread its gold and red path across the landscape and I had been watching the trees (on one of my favourite local skylines) begin to turn.

I took this gorgeous family to this field in the hope of incorporating a sense of time and place into the shoot. They love this pic - I'm sure for different reasons to me. I love the composition, colour and movement. They love their love.

September 2009

Lifestyle photographers shoot from the hip - we start shoots never knowing where they will take us. We may scout out good backdrops and locations but we don't lug heavy lighting equipment with us or set shots up. We look, we wait and sometimes we hit gold.

Here two bridesmaids walked away from the action. It was a beautiful summer evening and low sun was hitting this bank of thistles in such a way that it transformed them into a fabulous backdrop. A gap in the thistles let through a strong shaft of warm light that picked out their pretty, layered, dresses. They walked into the sweet spot and I took the picture. Magic.

August 2009

Isn't she beautiful? This photograph was taken just before we stopped for ice-creams mid shoot. She was waiting for her strawberry cone standing in front of the most beautiful old wooden door.

You can't ask a child to give you an expression like this but when you get one it's incredible - to know that you can give her parents an image that has captured their childs' individual beauty. One moment, one age that will take them back to this point in her life again and again.

July 2009

This is one of my favourite ever photographs and I don't think I will ever tire of it.

Two friends on a beach in Suffolk. I was ahead of them when I turned round to see that they had stopped and were showing each other a 'treasure'. To this day nobody knows what Eden was holding - a shell, a crab claw, an insect...

A precious moment, captured.

June 2009

I love this happy moment on Gary and Keeley's wedding day. They had awful weather for June (check out the moody sky) and we had to move the slot for my time alone with them to later in the day.

They nearly decided they didn't want to leave their guests - but in the end they trusted me and we went up to the windmill on Brill Hill.

As always it produces some of the best and most treasured images.
